The name of this album is not just an echo of the title of one recorded song; rather, it is meant to symbolically emphasize that the fourteen songs included here are the work of a completely "fresh" line-up of the otherwise almost fifty-two-year-old Spiritual Quintet. It is significant that this latest incarnation of the former first Czechoslovak folk formation returns several times to its original focus - simple, singable songs whose mission has always been to delight and entertain the listener. Here you will find our tried and true favourite genres - spirituals, ballads, local folk songs and greetings from the times of the Renaissance - a time of peak popularity of vocal creation. In addition, as is usual with recent albums, there are also samples of Jiří Cerha's original work; Dušan Vančura and Jiří Holoubek have also warmed up their soup.Bandleader Jiří Tichota presents a random look. Veronika Součková - a new member of the ensemble herself - chose the famous ballad All My Trials (Pláč), one of the hits of the young J. Baezová and especially of the trio Peter, Paul & Mary in the early days of SK. Nowadays the seasoned Jiří Holoubek contributed his own song In Silence. It is a pleasant surprise, because for many years Jirka consistently kept his creative inclinations a secret from the band. František Novotný's lyrics were an essential part of the repertoire in the first decades of the quintet, when the author willingly wrote verses for a little food. After a long time, you will again hear one fine text - Zlatá - in a dramatic performance by Jiří Cerha, the author of the music. When, sometime in the 1970s, Waldemar Matuska sang an American folk song with catchy love lyrics by Ivo Fischer Jó, třešně zrály (Yeah, the cherries have ripened), no one knew for sure that in the original it was a famous children's lullaby in which Aunt Ródy learns that her old houser has drowned. The jokey story is contained in the album almost verbatim: Aunt Rhoda's Fiddler. The Bridge Doesn't Lead to Paradise is a spirited almost-spiritual written by the almost-African-American Dusan Vančura for an almost-westudio. He admitted it so late that we had to rewrite the text. The real-life spiritual Down To The River made the American film Brother, Where Are You? It is one of the titles that SK sings - thanks to the new line-up - also in concerts a capella. The varied but uniform album closes with the famous song by the American singer-songwriter from the rebel generation Tom Paxton, Fresh Wind (Ramblin' Boy), which SK sang spontaneously with the audience at last year's Christmas concert in Hibernia in an adopted version.
