The Juno Award-winning album that launched Loreena McKennitt onto the international scene 30 years ago will be re-released on 24 September 2021 under the title The Visit: The Definitive Edition. The original album was recorded in 1991 and has sold more than 2 million copies in over 40 countries and was a turning point in the Canadian singer-songwriter's career. "The Visit: The Definitive Edition": a deluxe limited edition hardcover release that includes 4 CDs and an audio Blu-ray, a 32-page illustrated booklet with previously unreleased content such as the first surround mix of her music. The booklet is a veritable treasure trove of memories: four essays written by Loreena McKennitt, personal recollections of her unconventional rise by Dave Tollington, formerly of Warner Music Canada, and previously unpublished photographs. This is a "Revisit of The Visit" - a kaleidoscope of the times and places of the time. In addition to the original remastered recordings, the package includes two archival radio broadcasts from Toronto's Ontario Place and for NPR's World Cafe. There is also a spoken word disc that includes a 1991 interview and a roundtable discussion with colleagues from that time in 2020. The fourth disc contains audio recordings of six of the trio's performances, a binaural mix of the original headphone recordings. This binaural mix provides listeners with a surround experience if they use appropriate headphones. Blu-ray Audio delivers the original recording in Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound in high-definition stereo. Dolby developed this new Atmos format to provide sound similar to that of modern cinemas thanks to its three-dimensional sound. The 5.1 mix is in the older five-speaker surround format with subwoofers that most people are familiar with. The High-Res Stereo Mix is uncompressed and allows the listener to enjoy an original stereo mix that is very close to the original studio master. The Limited Deluxe Edition features highlights from McKennitt's concert performances, including "Bonny Portmore," "The Lady of Shalot," "The Old Ways," "Greensleeves" and "Tango To Evora" - great songs that have received cover versions by other artists.
