In 2013, Van Morrison's groundbreaking 1970 album Moondance was released in a lavish and very extensive deluxe edition filled to the brim with previously unreleased studio recordings. Now, Rhino/Warner Music presents two more of Morrison's legendary albums that now enjoy cult status: Warner's brilliant 1968 debut Astral Weeks and the follow-up to 1970's Moondance, His Band And The Street Choir, which have also been remastered and include previously unreleased versions of some of the album's tracks. When Astral Weeks was released in the fall of 1968, it narrowly missed the charts. But 47 years later, the album has become a myth for several generations of fans who have discovered Van Morrison and succumbed to his charms in recent years. In addition to the complete album, the Astral Weeks Deluxe Edition contains four additional recordings that are available here for the first time. They showcase the spectacular interplay between Morrison and the quartet of musicians who accompany him on the album: Bassist Richard Davis, guitarist Jay Berliner, percussionist Warren Smith and Modern Jazz Quartet drummer Connie Kay. Bonus tracks include the first recording of Beside You, an unabridged version of Slim Slow Slider, and a variation of Madame George that highlights the use of vibraphone. Released immediately after the huge success of Moondance in November 1970, His Band And The Street Choir is brimming with energy, as in the hits Domino and Blue Money and Call Me Up In Dreamland. The remastered edition of the album features five additional unreleased tracks, including a raw version of Give Me A Kiss without piano, horns and backing vocals. Morrison's impressive falsetto voice dominates the third version of Gypsy Queen, and the band is at its funkiest on this version of I've Been Working.
