The album was produced by Rick Rubin, who had previously worked with Slayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Johnny Cash. The album was announced on January 11, 2013, with a release date set for June 2013. Drummer Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, who previously toured with Osbourne, replaced original drummer Bill Ward, who declined to participate in the reunion.
